ENJOYMENT METHOD:
For the evaluation, I enjoyed the juice neat from a Glencairn glass with father and fellow website creator, Brian.

SETTING:
At the end, I close my eyes and picture sitting on a nice, grassy hill with a big oak tree giving me shade with its yellow-orange autumn leaves. Skies are a crisp blue and not a cloud in sight. A good day.

NOSE:
Met with caramelized, red berried and other candied dark fruits to start. Accompanied by a sweet, fruit leather taste seasoned with brown sugar and cinnamon. Subtle vanilla custard and blueberries join these richer tastes, all with a lovely, seasoned oak playing the role of serving platter for these scents to leap from.
PALATE:
– Mouth feel: rich and full with more of a nip of alcohol burn as opposed to a full bite, likely due to lower proof and rye
– Balance: Warn and full
– Visual: exceptionally long legs that are thin and do not cling to the glass for very long.
– Taste: The warm, dark fruit leather from the nose carries through to the palate along with raisins and brown sugar. Almost reminiscent of cherry pie fresh from the over complete with cinnamon and brown sugar. Hold the ice cream. Between sips, you are comforted with a pleasant, toasted oak taste. Let me say though, even with a thorough Kentucky chew, the salivary glands are BEGGING for another medium-to-large sized sip ;). Did I mention warm, as well?
FINISH:
– Lasting power: Medium to long finish
– No More: The sad and empty Glencairn screams oak at the finish, but you’re also left with a somehow bright flavor of dark fruit. Feeling is nice and toasty. I’ll take another glass, please.
WORTH THE PRICE?
I always tell people that this is one of the best value bourbons I’ve ever had.
