Bold flavors of meat and potatoes, BBQ, dark robust beer and deep red wine please me. Years ago, while on a business trip to Louisville, Kentucky, I was invited on a short Bourbon Trail tour. Whiskey had my attention. Then after years enjoying back country Idaho, I expanded my bourbon education while readying for a wilderness backpack trip. During those early tastings, my notes were saved and over time my palate has matured.
Now I gravitate towards big, bold, high proof bourbons which are earthy, sweet and full of oak. I now scour for unicorns and have a tendency to hoard my finds. As a 60 something, my palate is surely different than my daughter’s, Hannah and young Elora. With more than one hundred and fifty reviews, I trust my whiskey opinions will aid in your discoveries.
Introduced to whiskey in my early 20’s in Idaho, this world of liquid amber is blissfully endless to me, one which I am eager and excited to explore. Fortunate to have a father with discerning taste, my exposure to the drink has included experiences with many respected distilleries with both classics and unicorns. Consequently, my palate has had equal opportunity to develop and grow.
The ideal flavor profile for me is composed of deep, dark fruits, however, earthy tones filled with hints of grass also pique my interest. I look forward to sharing favorites, thoughts and adventures.
Younger sister to Hannah, I have been watching my dad and her sip bourbon for several years. Once I turned 21, I eagerly joined the tribe of bourbon, wanting learn how to taste and expanding my palate (often bigger and more creative than Dad’s or Hannah’s, I admit). The family bunker has grown substantially since they began this blog in 2019, and as such, there’s always something new for me to try. I love whiskeys with sweet and desserty flavors. If I can have caramel, vanilla, maple, brown sugar – I’m sold. While not big on super herbal or peaty flavors, I’m is always open-minded to a potential good pour. I look forward to growing my library from scratch with you and my family.
